Meet Kayla Van Meter

High Choice Feeders is truly blessed to have some of the best employees. Kayla Van Meter is one of those employees. She’s crucial in keeping our office running, and we’re lucky to have her with us.

Kayla’s official job is Controller. This means she prepares financial reports and manages our accounting functions. She also oversees our office staff and is absolutely essential in the day-to-day operation of our office. Kayla has a sharp mind and can pivot when something new is thrown her way.

“We are like a family here,” says Kayla, when asked what makes working at High Choice Feeders different from other companies. “We support each other and have a fun time while at work,” she adds, stressing that all High Choice Feeders employees are highly valued at the company. That family atmosphere includes being a force for good in the community and encouraging employee growth within the company.

That said, as important as employees are, even those working in the office tend to the cattle in one way or another. Kayla’s first priority every day is to make sure the cattle paperwork required for cattle to be received or shipped is prepared. After all, there is no business without the cattle. After ensuring the important paperwork of the day is getting done, Kayla keeps busy managing office staff, reconciling accounts, reviewing company finances, and meeting with others in the office to keep the business running efficiently.

Kayla views accounting as a puzzle, in which numbers are her pieces. She has always loved a good puzzle, so accounting is a natural fit. Kayla received her Bachelor of Accounting degree from Colorado State University and found a home at High Choice Feeders, where she gets to do what she loves, while also being able to assist in policy development to help not just the company, but also the team members grow and succeed.

Just about the only thing Kayla doesn’t get to do is go out into the fields to wrangle cattle. She usually only gets out to the yard to do inventory or manage special projects, such as implementing a new security system. That’s just fine by her though, as she’d much rather be inside wrangling the numbers.
